The Dirty Nil

Fuck Art - Dine Alone Records

‘Fuck Art’ two things that need saying right from the off about this title, one is that this says so much about the fuck you mind set of this band, commercially this is a landmine, secondly it tells us that they do what they want and this album is gonna rock ya socks off.

The Dirty Nil have been putting together their sound and finding out how good they can be since around 2006, with all this leading to the release that quite frankly gathers all the blood sweat and tears of the past year and locks it up within possibly their best album yet.

So, how do you kick off an album that defines how good you are, well you smash the ears with a thrash metal intro to ‘Doom Boy’ then ease not so gently into the pop-punk anthem that is laced with metal shards all the way through.  Being recorded in year that would and has influenced most bands lyrically, the Nil have resisted that route and have instead kept true to the life moments that have driven them in the past, like ‘Blunt Force Concussion’ an emotionally less than blunt song, or ‘Done With Drugs’ that seems to spell out the realities of growing old and living with responsibilities that come with it.

You get the feeling that even with two previous albums under the belt, standing still is not an option, yes we are still getting an album full of Dirty Nil like you know them, but in addition to this your getting a wealth of musical experience thrown in, from the heavily rock driven ‘Ride Or Die’ with some heavy riffs and killer beats, to ‘Damage Control’ that certainly has the rock at heart, but also draws on some pure emo My Chemical Romance moments throughout.  Not to forget the pop-punk that spills out from every corner of ‘Possession’ a song that might have a sing-a-long chorus and melodic riffs in abundance, but also hits out a some serious control issues that can dog some relationships.

The album finishes up on a high, or is that a low?

‘One More And The Bill’ an oxymoron fuelled song it seems, how can you get rid of everything that runs our lives in modern terms, feel the angst and hatred for all the toxicity that abounds on social media, and yet still need to be connected, a depressing thought, to handle this maybe all you need is to remember this simple quote  “everyone just wants to be liked and accepted, except for Tim, Tim doesn’t give a fuck”.

Just hope my editor allows so many Fucks in a single review..

Out on January 1st 2021, yes I said 2021, a year of hope and Dirty Nil will lead the charge onward with this stonker of an album.
