The Limit Club

Kid Bitchin' - Self Released

The Limit Club are a staple of the Phoenix music scene, they’ve undertaken West Coast  and European tours and criss crossed the US, with three full-length records and an EP under their belt, they’ve built a solid following amongst fans and critics alike. Formed in 2005, the band has developed their strongest lineup yet with Nick Feratu (lead vocals, guitar), NickDave (vocals, upright bass), Miranda Duffy (guitar, vocals) and Niko J (drums, vocals). The Limit Club have melded numerous influences into their own sizzling-hot style for their brand new album, Kid Bitchin’, that follows on from 2014’s Wild Four EP, the album is now available via digital platforms and will be available on coloured vinyl and CD on September 15th.

My first encounter with The Limit Club was their 2008 sophomore album, Phantom Cats, where I was intrigued to hear their take on The Damned‘s Shadow Of Love, a band that obviously has been a key influence on The Limit Club given that their name is taken from a song from the Friday 13th EP by that band, but they are not attempting to copy, instead they embrace their influences and they blend elements of psychobilly, punk rock and rock n’ roll together to create their own dark style. The Ballad Of Kid Bitchin’ kicks things off with a brief opener that reminds of a collision between Dead Kennedys and Dropkick Murphys, this turns out to be a curve ball as from You Are A Lie onwards they launch into their trademark psychobilly influenced punk rock, a sound that has something of the night about it and is reassuringly underpinned by slapping double bass.

With their fourth full length The Limit Club have stayed true to their course, but to me it seems like they have developed a stronger and confident sound since I initially encountered them. Kid Bitchin’ is twelve full on tracks that pass by in a blur and after more than decade together The Limit Club have unleashed their strongest release to date, one that I’d recommend to anyone who has any love the more melodic side of psycholobilly and especially to anyone who is a devotee of the likes Tiger Army, The Horrorpops and The Meteors.
