Words, Unsaid - Self Released
Syracuse, NY pop punk revivalists Townhouse Warrior are set to self release their latest album, Words, Unsaid, via Bandcamp today, March 20th 2018. Their new album follows on from their 2015 debut, Seriously, I Don’t Mind, and 2016’s For Every Wasted Day which were both album’s that adhered strictly to the pop punk handbook, but in the intervening two years it appears that Townhouse Warrior have adopted outside influences that have stopped Words, Unsaid being a carbon copy of their previous album’s, or of any other pop punk release.
From the opening crashing chords of Echoes you still know that you’re in prime pop punk territory, all of the melodic elements are present and correct as are the inevitably big choruses, the pop punk bounce is also an ever present on their latest album, but other influences do creep into the mix. The single So Left, It’s Right, has some big rock chords that bolster the chorus whilst Toll Taker and Daydreamer represents the softer emo side of their character. Townhouse Warrior continue to blend influences that are born of pop punk scene together all the while building to the epic, at least by pop punk standards, finale of New Years Eve.
Townhouse Warrior are never going to change your world, but they revisit the heyday of pop punk and they do it well, and more importantly they aren’t a carbon copy of any of the bands as they have their own distinct character and have assimilated later influences, and this is all done whilst staying true to the pop punk path. Whether Townhouse Warrior will be to your taste will depend greatly on your opinion of pop punk, but if you have any love for this branch of the punk scene then Townhouse Warrior should be on your radar.
