Alexisonfire

Self-Titled - Vagrant Records

St. Catherine, Ontario’s, Alexisonfire have just released their first album in the United States through the good people at Equal Vision Records. The band, which was formed in 2001 after three separate bands called it quits, has given it’s growing fan based 11 songs to scream along with.

Now, I gave this album a mark of 2.5 on 5 because I have a very nonchalant feeling towards it. The album really does nothing to me at all. It doesn’t motivate me and get me energized; nor does it turn me to the aggravated and annoyed side. It is just a basic album which I can listen to as background music. I know from experience that the all screaming vocals by front man George Pettit get some people immensely energized; I can also see why it happens. It is a sound that is new, a sound that is loud, a sound that says “I don’t care; let’s go crazy!”. On the other hand; I also know that people sometimes find the same vocals annoying as they make it very difficult to decipher the lyrics and rarely go in tune with the musical instruments.

I do realized that this review isn’t quite perfect. But really this album is one you have to hear for yourself to decide if you like it or not. Most hard-core fans will truly enjoy this album while pop-punk fans will detest it. To me, it is just an album. One that won’t get played often; but one that can be played anytime at any moment with any feelings.
