Anadivine

Zoo - SideCho Records

Last year Anadivine came out with a nice debut self-titled EP on SideCho Records. It wasn’t a spectacular record, but it showed a lot of potential in the young band. It was an EP that was a nice listen, with dark lyrics, and amazing artwork. Then skip to this year, now the band are ready to release their debut full length CD on SideCho‘s partner label The Militia Group; and after a few listens, it is evident that the band threw away any potential that they did have before hand.

Zoo was a very disappointing album for me in almost every way possible. From the boring, unimaginative title, to the horrendous artwork, to the songs, everything was disappointing. But on a CD, the only thing that matters are the songs, so I’ll just talk about these ten. Anadivine seem to have stepped down a step since their EP. The self-titled release last year was a hard hitting, rock album touching on the side of emo. Now on Zoo, they have gone full blown emo. Slow, melodic, and soft. There isn’t anything that makes you want to listen to it or press back to hear the song again. Each song sounds pretty much the same with very little diversity throughout the album. On Self-titledAnadivine had a sound of their own, one that is memorable and stands out; but on Zoo they seemed to have tried to imitate all the other slow emo bands out there and really failed.

Would I recommendAnadivine to a friend? Not anymore. Zoo is a very disappointing album, and its not like anything I thought it would be like.
