Hooligan - Volcom Entertainment
“Straight up punk rock outta Sacramento” is how Volcom Entertainment describes their band, Another Damn Disappointment; and after listening to Hooligan, its hard to disagree.
Right from the opening track of Mr. Suit and Tie to the closing track of Ignorance Is Bliss, you get bombarded with fast paced punk songs. Songs driven by guitar and drum with somewhat scratchy, but still catchy, vocals. It reminds me a lot of Blink182‘s Dude Ranch. The guitars are speedy and give the songs a ton of energy as the drums are hard and strong in the background. A.D.D. is, as Volcom says, straight up punk rock. They play it hard, fast, and don’t care what people think. There aren’t any gimmicks or fancy instruments, just the 3 basics. The lyrics are angst-filled, teenager anthems that don’t make you stop and think about the state of affairs or the meaning of life; they just get you singing along. They are catchy, simple, and thrown at you quickly.
Another Damn Disappointment has really impressed me with Hooligan. It is, in no way, a disappointment. It reminded me of some of my older CDs and has a nice street punk feel to it, which is a nice break from the emo genre that is taking over. I for one can’t wait to catch them on Warped Tour this year.
