This Is Live, This Is Murderous (The Show Must Go Off) [DVD] - Kung Fu Records
Kung Fu Records has always pleased me with their live DVD series, The Show Must Go Off!. They feature bands I like, some more then others, and bands that are always entertaining. The only bad one to date was the stand up comedian, Neil Hamburger. But then I got their thirteenth episode, Bleeding Through‘s This Is Live, This Is Murderous, and it is, for me anyway, the second disappointing release in the series.
The biggest different in this DVD compared to the earlier releases is the genre change. Normally they have punk rock, or pop-punk, fun styles that I always love. But not Bleeding Through, they are, as many of you know, a hard-core band. Lots of heavy guitar riffs, head bopping, and screaming vocals. This is not a genre I really like. Every once in a while I’ll find a band with that sound that I love, but this isn’t one of them. So that right away, is why I don’t like this DVD. I don’t like their style of music and I don’t like their sound. But for anyone who does like that type of music, then you will like this DVD. The band puts everything they have into their performance; right off the back, lead singer Brandan Schieppati jumped into the crowd to crowd surf. You see them getting ready before hand and how serious they are, and they rip through eleven tracks which the crowd eats up. The only downside is that the entire performance is tinted blue. The band members, instruments, crowd, everything is tinted blue. I can’t figure out whether it’s the lighting in the Glass House or the way Kung Fu filmed it, but one things for sure and that is that its distracting at times. Other then that, its a pretty good performance.
Me, I don’t like this DVD; but its only because I don’t like the band much. Its not my style of music or what I like to listen to. But for anyone who does like Bleeding Through, then they will like This Is Live, This Is Murderous.
