Australia Stops - Bad Vibrations / Goner Records / Damaged Record Co
This is the fifth album from C.O.F.F.I.N, who I would describe as a burning guitar led, dirty Rock n Roll band from the southern hemisphere. So Australia Stops might actually be the perfect title for an album that could stop any continent from functioning normally during the duration of its eleven tracks, a tornado rips through downtown Sydney might be an apt description of this whiskey soaked with a touch of venom vocal/guitar assault on the senses.

From the off, this album takes no prisoners when it comes to its live feel, your at the venue being slapped around the ears with raw grungy vocal, the crowd are winding up into a sweaty mosh pit, and all from the relative comfort of your armchair, this is only the first track ‘Give Me A Bite’ too!
Every song just drives you further a further up this spiralling out of control tornado, the guitars scream like finger nails trying to latch onto something that might save them from the abyss, ‘Keep It Dark’ sadistically powers its way on, the vocal grounds you momentarily, but then the drums slash and thunder everything loose again, off into the maelstrom we go again, ‘Lovers Leash’ throws this storm into overdrive with a slice of Motorhead mayhem until finally the eye of the storm arrives, a eerie calm wafts over you, the tension can be felt as ‘Beasts’ hangs a fog of inevitability around you thenbuilds to a crescendo of wild thunderous drumming that precedes the madness that’s about to engulf you once more, and this is only half way through the album!
If you looking for an album that plays sensible Rock n Roll and has nothing to give other than great riffs, steady drum patterns or a vocal that lays down the gauntlet to perfect pitch singers, then you just fell into the wrong bar and need to put the cocktail down and pick up a double Whisky, the ride is rough, but the reward is time spent being let loose from the confines of normality and given a pass into the basement world of dirty Rock n Roll, ‘Night Breaker’ and ‘Through The Sewer’ are two darn near perfect examples of how this kind of selfless energy can spread like a wildfire, and burn all who stand in its way to the core of there being. And we never even got into the lyrical content, so that’s your pandora’s box to open.
Not a live album, but 100% alive!
Out Sept 15th Via Bad Vibrations (Europe), Goner Records (North America), Damaged Records (Australia).
