Way Down - Self Released
‘Way Down’ no not of the Elvis kind, this self released EP by Elias Black is a self released triumph against adversity. Bringing some Emo/Punk to life with a mix of Rock, Grunge and beautifully intricate melodies, Elias has a style of his own that although doesn’t instantly grab you, does grow like a ivy that clings and won’t let go.
Well crafted, full of rage and emotions that take you down a road of heartbreak and frustration. Thats the underlying feel to this piece of Rock n Roll with an Elias twist.
When ‘Way Down’ starts, you do immediately thinks Cory Taylor, a song that evokes mood and passion in buckets, vocals that tell a story in a way that a story should be told.
‘Rust’ which was released earlier in October, follows the dark theme that seems to flow from Elias throughout this EP, ‘Flickered Out’ does seem to be a continuation from the previous track, in fact all the tracks do start with this strange scratchy radio signal thing, but then stand out from the crowd ‘Acid Tongue’ makes up for all this in a passionate fuck you kind of way, much more punk sounding and less self absorbed, not that this is a bad thing, the inward looking that runs through is so vocally cared for and sung with every ounce of being, that it holds you to every note and word. ‘Leave It Alone’ does this perfectly, filled with epic emo vocals and heavy drum beats, it’s a moment in time to say the least.
Lastly we come to the aptly named ‘Ending’ an acoustic softer sounding reflection of a song to begin with, that soon drives the volume up a notch or too and ends with this wall of sound.
Punk? No, Emo? No, Rock? No, try all at the same time!
