Felicia And The Gammon Lumpz

Twisted Fruit - Warp Records

How many of you have heard of Felicia & The Gammon Lumpz, well be prepared for what you are about to hear, might land you in trouble with so many of those closed minded types that hang around on the fringes of great things, but are too scared to go in, for fear of actually being spotted enjoying themselves and kicking off the shackles of normality.

Screaming their way out of Bradford (although I’m sure it has absolutely no bearing on anything as to where they are from), Felicia & The Gammon Lumpz are beyond any real meaningful comparisons, but if you need some kind of starting point, go check out Pussy Willow Furry Venus with a lead singer that oozes so much more fuck you Rock n Roll attitude than pretty much any Marylin Manson wannabe, your on your way to Felicia maybe.

This EP is the first of many more interesting a weird things to come (hopefully), the first piece of “dark sexed up metal” (made that one up) is “Pathetic Twisted fruit” with its screaming guitar that almost feels like it needs to escape, but is held down by some pretty heady drum beats and a bass that through the whole EP pins everything together.  The warning is ‘never kick someone with bigger teeth than you’

As Felicia remarks;

once upon a time I was causing a bit of a rucas. was when Brexit was a big thing and I wrote a song called “Told You So”..

Basically  – the tories tricked the Brexiters. leavers.  But I promoted it in all their groups , and it worked because I had written in pretend blood on my chest ‘ I support Boris 100%’ and that was the first frame .

Eventually a guy clocked on, and picked me up on me pointing out some truths about a meme in one of their groups.

It was like a generic war veteran and some kind of propaganda slant for leave.. my comment was.. ‘ none of you know who this man is. just because he served in a war, that doesn’t make him an honourable or decent person by default’ ( said with a little more venom of course)

anyway. . one of the group members fished out a photo of me from the site.. and showed the group referring to me as a ‘ pathetic twisted fruit’

so I used the title. because I love it. and the song in particular is all about those kind of haters actually making me more powerful in the public eye ultimately”

Gammon Lumpz” second song, defiantly stands up and lets rip at what can never be defended, an ode to all that should be ostracised from the dark corners of society, “Endless legions of bacon” with reference to a name that should never be uttered on the website Murdoch (sorry in advance), a guitar riff of pure porn, cuts through the heart of the song and stamps on the vermin Felicia sings of.

Finally if you still have energy left, “She Who Thirsts” which has a its own, in lockdown made video, a song  that seems to truly have the sum of Felicia & The Gammon Lumpz at heart, freedom to do what you want, speak up when it needs saying, love yourself no matter what and most of all as the line says “Takes something special inside to do what we do”

If you have any inhibitions or judgements, leave them at the door and never look back.
