EP Review: ManDown – We Want Blood

Who are ManDown?  Well they are a Iain Turner (Guitar/Vocal) and Lawrence Arnold (Drums), they play like a five piece and give all the energy of punk to a heavy rock riff filled sound.

‘We Want Blood’ was produced by Chris Coulter (Idles, Arcane Roots and more) and Jamie Lenmen (yes, he of Reuben and stunning moustache fame),

Should we be excited by these guys?  Absolutely!

Dropping an EP of 4 songs that come in at under 12 mins, has to be applauded, not because it’s a new phenomenon in the world of Punk, but within ‘We Want Blood’ you have huge riffs, melody, hooks and gnarly vocals, all intertwined in a new and refreshing way.

‘Try Or Die’ is the first track that has been released and is the opening for this EP.  A feedback intro that builds up to a snappy huge drum beat and is equally followed by, a huge guitar riff which you soon come to realise, is the glue that holds the songs together throughout the EP.  

Like System Of A Down colliding with Rage Against The Machine your swiftly and wonderfully enthralled by the next two offerings ‘Tick Tock’ and ‘Kiss’, musically as raw and wonderful as you would want to be hearing, vocally as expressive and as energetic as anything you will hear.

Finally, and this is said in a way that kind of expresses how when your’e listening you suddenly realise the last track ‘We Want Blood’ is already playing!  Another song that has everything you want in a song and nothing you don’t want. As within the whole body of this EP, is the use of to the point, no messing about quality music with no trimmings and no meanderings.

ManDown are heading for a whole load of insane hyping around their brilliance soon, this EP will be one that you will most probably be playing over and over again, and always wishing it would never end.
