Nova Scotia's Excited To Die have released the Sick Til Death EP that is now available through streaming platforms and…
Gettin' It On - Self Released
Nashville punk ‘n roll quartet The Deadly Dares, who apparently take their name from dangerous childhood pastimes rather than the well known episode of 70’s sitcom Happy Days, were formed by Jarrett Dant and Chuck Brown of Stompwater, they soon connected with Dyrick Rainey and Derrek Weatherspoon to cement the band’s line up. The Deadly Dares have now self released their six song debut EP “Gettin’ It On” that is now available for streaming and purchase via Bandcamp.
If you’re looking for clean polished pop punk then The Deadly Dares ain’t for your ears, this is down and dirty punk rock ‘n roll, from the minute you drop the needle (or hit play) the EP’s title track is an amphetamine driven incarnation of the raw sneering punk rock that the New York Dolls and The Dead Boys delivered. The defiant rock ‘n roll continues with the distorted guitar riff of “Can’t Keep Me Down” that leans into Raw Power era stooges territory, You are then hit by the trio of “Up Against It” “Whiskey Bottle Blues” and “Get Down” that move forward towards the dawn of punk, before the EP rounds off with “No Denying” that shifts towards embryonic hardcore.
The production is deliberately lo-fi, whether this is intentional or not it does give “Gettin’ it On” the feel of a throw back to the mid seventies, as a result whether you love punks primal origins will greatly influence as to whether The Deadly Dares debut release is for you, but for those who revel in the primitive DIY roots of punk rock then this is the band you’ve been waiting for. “Gettin’ It On” seems to be an EP that time travels across the proto punk and embryonic US punk scene, where and when their next EP will be influenced by remains to be seen but iI can’t wait to find out.
