Triple Sundae

Glow - Self Released

Since 2014 Triple Sundae have been a notable presence in London’s punk rock scene, they now seem destined to make even bigger waves and spread further than the confines of their local scene with their new self released EP, Glow, that contains six tracks of emotional melodic punk that takes it’s cues from bands like The Menzingers, PUP and SpraynardTriple Sundae is not a name that conjures up images of sweaty punk shows and intense driven guitar riffs, to me it’s more reminiscent of a 1950’s girl group that would sing about love, lost love and, well you get the picture, but the opening track “Mental Pollution” proves beyond any doubt that punk rock is exactly what Triple Sundae are. This is hard hitting heart on your sleeve punk rock, rather than the subject matter the name suggests Triple Sundae focus on the challenges of the modern world and their struggles with mental health issues.

Triple Sundae‘s latest EP manages to simultaneously be poppy, intense and emotional, tracks regularly break down before picking back up into the pace, catchy riffs descend into anguish, there are singalong moments, bouncy riffs that give a nod to their indie influences and if you want some straight up punk rock then that’s on the menu with Everything’s Cool, the EP’s finest two minutes. If you can perfectly blend the best elements of the indie scene with some punk grit then that is no mean feat and that is the combination that Triple Sundae have served up. This is as good as anything I’ve heard from the current indie punk scene as it manages to balance the competing influences and tops it off with relatable heart on the sleeve lyrics, which I am somewhat predictably going to describe as being the cherry on top of an impressive Triple Sundae.
