The Nail In The Coffee - High End Denim Records

Israeli Punk bands, let me see, just how many can you name?, Useless ID are the only other one that springs to mind, but this is Free Sergio. Its a very small world and Punk music and the people/bands in or around it are to me family, so when you say there is this band from Israel called Free Sergio and they play super fast high octane punk rock, and they rail against all thats bad in their country and the world, well then they just got my attention. Now its your turn to take a listen, read this reasonable attempt at letting you in on just how good they are and then head on off and buy into some great sounds.

Sixteen songs, five of which come in under one minute and nine under two minutes, thus we are heading into an album that already sounds straight up and free from bullshit. Straight out of the gate ‘Unbearable Place’ drives a dagger to the heart, its a song that musically never seems that angry, but thrown together with lyrics that seem to speak internal turmoil and hatred of a world full of haters, this is a headlock of a moment.

With most reviews I do, I like to give the album/EP a listen or two, then I go at it whilst listening, the problem here is that before I’ve typed three or four words the songs finished, but here goes anyway.  ‘Cant Break Love’ a bass line led break up song?, ‘Outcasts’ a breakneck speed, break up song again, but the break up is more of a going different ways ideologically, ‘I Give Black Cats Bad Luck’ gives us the ska hit, ‘I’m Weird’ how do they know me that well already (but then I’m pretty sure that if your you’ve managed to keep reading this and most of my other stuff, you’ll fully get that and be in the club), ‘God Complex’ now were talking about a song thats after the song of the album, punk/ska mix and a “we don’t need false ideas rammed down our throats thanks” attitude.

Ok I had to give up on the listen and type shit, too fucking old for that!, and being three or so songs behind isn’t working, you get the idea though. The overall sense this album gives you, is that you’re on a full on power punk, ska, pop punk, hardcore (especially the attitude) ride that you need to be on to get, and this band are saying “we know where we are, do you?”

The world at the moment is so fucked, this band know this and are happy to let you know they know, they put it right here in short sharp jolts of razor sharp punk polarisation.

Out on January 17th via High End Denim Records
