From First To Last

Heroine - Epitaph Records

Every single band, label, promoter, anything lies their faces off on bios and press release, but we can’t fault them for that. They need to. They need to convince us editorialists that their band is the best band and that their band is the band we should be covering. They need to attract out attention before we even hear the music, make us want to hear the music, and make us want to promote the music. So they lie, big deal. But as soon as I finished the first line of From First To Last‘s bio for Heroine, I just burst out laughing from the sheer absurdity of Sonny Moore’s comment: It’s one thing to play a certain type of music, but it’s another thing to have no originality. Well Sonny, have you listened to your CD?

Heroine follows in the same path as their last CD, Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count in that it is your generic screamo record. There’s nothing new or unique on it, it just sounds like a slightly more mature version of Dear Diary. To top it all off, Limp Bizkit‘s guitarist, Wes Borland, plays bass on the album, and you can her that influence on songs like the nearly electronicWaves Goodbye – and that influence isn’t necessarily a good thing. Moore’s vocals are gritty and annoying as he has almost no range and when he tries to go forward from his restriction he just doesn’t sound good. The songs drag on and on and on, with most of them being around 4 minutes long.

Really, I don’t know what to say about Heroine. I hate it and will never listen to it again. It’s not unique and inventive as Moore so proudly states, its the same generic thing they threw out last album. But the most annoying thing is that there will still be 100,000 emo boys and girls in makeup and girls pants who go out and buy the album, convincing From First To Last that they should keep putting out records, when really, they shouldn’t.
