Before I begin formally reviewing this cd, I’d just like to say that I’ve never before listened to Gatsby’s American Dream and for a good reason too, I simply don’t like this kind of music. So my review will definitely be biased, but I will try to get through as much of the cd as I possibly can to keep this fair before I turn something better on.
I don’t understand what would bring someone to listen to this kind of music. As far as poppy shit goes, this could make the radio and probably draw in a crowd of trendy teenagers. Yet it’s not catchy, the guys voice is annoying, the entire band plays basic music, with shitty lyrics. They kind of sound like a mix of The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and everything else that I despise. Although I’m proud to say that I listened up to the fourth song out of eleven, it’s yet another example of my astounding self control. But I digress, after listening to those four songs and parts of the rest of the songs(just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything) it became completely clear to me that there is absolutely no hope for the music industry or the youth of North America. Bands like this have been popping up left and right for the last few years, and they’ll get their few minutes in the sun with a good review from a big magazine or web site, then they fade out. Which brings me to my next point, the press package I got with this album was huge, it contained dozens of other reviews and information relevant to hyping Gatsby’s American Dream. Absolutepunk gave them a 9.5 out of 10, which makes me wonder what I’m missing. Not to mention, AP Magazine said they’re “One of a hundred bands you need to know,” which is one more reason I hate that magazine. They shove their bullshit down all their readers throats and still somehow manage to continue growing. But once again I have digressed, after reading the review from absolutepunk, I have realized that this album is actually,”Something like and open letter to the music industry. It’s blunt, angry, and to the point.” Apparently the vocals are even more raw and aggressive than they used to be, which doesn’t really make me want to listen to their old stuff.
I cannot stress enough how terrible this band is in general. They completely lack energy and speed, which is what attracted me to the genre of “punk” music. Although I wouldn’t call this band punk, they’re just another poppy clone to play over muchmusic or MTV. Please! don’t buy this cd, it’s a complete waste of money. If you’ve already bought this cd, please don’t go see them. If you’ve bought the cd, gone and seen the band, you obviously like them, therefore you’re a lost cause. Once this review is online, I’m just going to give this cd away(That’s probably the most important line of this review, just in case you don’t feel like reading much, it should sum up the way I felt quite clearly).
