Character Actors Release “Everywhere Is Good Except For Where We Are” EP
Leeds, UK's Character Actors have today released the Everywhere Is Good Except For Where We Are EP that is available…
Get Off My Lawn! - SBÄM Records
I have to be pretty damn honest about this band and German pop punk in general, truth is, it’s not a region that I have been familiar with, especially when it comes to this genre. So getting this EP to listen to is quite special, and this is where you hear whether or not it was worth my, or more to the point, your time. I think the band has been around since about 2010, a four piece, and they have always played pretty much straight up pop punk with a splash of skate punk. This EP comes in after a three album career that has also seen them support the likes of Zebrahead and The Ataris on live stages throughout Europe.
Hitting that play button was a bit of a worry If I’m being honest, only due to the fact that this is a genre that is/has been played to death, and is one of my favourite punk pleasures, so it’s scary as hell, are we just gonna get some generic sounds that don’t try to push the envelope, is it background supermarket territory? Happily this is a band that have taken up the challenge of making music that stands out. ‘Nothing Left To Give’ drops in first, it’s a machine gun paced uppercut, no it doesn’t push any boundaries, but it’s a sing-a-long break up song that has heart. ‘Falling’ comes in next, it takes the melodic Blink-182 sound and drops a lyric that deals with growing old and the mental health issues that drag you back.
‘Waiting’ is a song that sits behind a pretty strong grungy riff, it’s dark and yet hopeful to its core, ‘Feel Alive’ on the other hand, takes an ear worm chorus and drags you kicking and screaming into the light. Then we get suddenly to the end, ‘Stuck In The Aftermath’ seals the deal, its like an epic moment in time, it builds constantly all the way, the chorus is even more of an ear worm than the previous track, then it ends just as abruptly as the EP started.
Is this life changing, no, is it worth your time, yes. If it’s an EP full of change you’re after with songs that don’t hang around long enough to be boring, then you’re on a winner here. Get Off My Lawn! was released on the UK’s bonfire night, 5th November, Via SBÄM Records; a pretty explosive combination I’d say.
