I Am The Avalanche

I Am The Avalanche - Drive-Thru Records

The streets of the world were filled with rivers of tears back in 2003. Every where you looked, everyone you saw was in a state of shock and dismay, with tears slowly running down their cheeks as they mourned the loss of their favorite band, The Movielife. Soon shouts of “encore” and “one more song” erupted, but fell on deaf ears. And while in the last two years those chants have gone unanswered, Vinnie Caruana was considerate enough to throw the mourning fans a bone. But this bone was a different bone, instead of being old and weak, it’s a bone wrapped with juicy meat.

I am of course talking about the debut album from Caruana’s brand new band, I Am The Avalanche – and after one spin, your panting and begging for more.

Former Movielife fans will easily be converted over to this new band for mainly reasons, but mainly due to the fact that even though it may not be as intense of Forty Hour Train Back To Penn, they still sound remarkably similar. Which makes sense because you still get Caruana’s signature vocal harmonies and his unique voice along with his passionate lyrics such as “Promise me if we both die violently that the blood dripping from our chins is a symphony” (Symphony).

Nevertheless, people have to get over the fact that this isn’t The Movielife – it is I Am The Avalanche, and that I Am The Avalanche have crafted a decisively solid album here with tracks like I Took A Beating, Dead And Gone, New Disaster, Clean Up and Always. Although, be warned, while the faster songs like I Took A Beating and Emergency will instantly appeal to everyone, the slower ones likeClean Up and My Second Restraining Order will take a while to get used to.But once you do, this CD will be the CD to repair your broken heart.
