Jackass

Plastic Jesus - BYO Records

When you hear the word “Jackass”, most people immediately think of Johnny Knoxville and his gang of immature friends. Some people will think of it as the insult. But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about Jackass, the band.

The country punk band on BYO Records just released their latest 13 track album, Plastic Jesus. With this album, the band broke every conventional punk rock “rule”; they are truly unlike any other band I know. With toe tapping country guitar riffs, a western, gruffy voice and to top it all off, they use a guitarrón! With a couple cover songs (I Want It That Way by The Backstreet Boys and Madonna‘sMusic) and eleven original songs, the band is ready to open new doors and test new grounds.

Country fans will most likely love Jackass, while punk fans may be hesitant at first. Owning a CD like this one could tarnish their bad boy image; and for others, it just simply won’t appeal to them. But the album is fun to listen to, fro a short amount of time, it takes you away from the generic sound we hear so often. Unfortunately, after a few listens, Plastic Jesus starts to get boring and repetitive. Its really not an album you can listen to over and over again and still really enjoy it. Listen to it once or twice, put it back in your CD case and pull it out later next week and you should be fine. Listening to it every day would just kill it.
