Maxeen

Self Titled - SideOneDummy Records

It’s hard to be different in the music scene when it seems like everything has been done before. So it seems a lot of the time we hear comments like “they’re good at what they do, but it’s nothing original”. Well, to me that’s the way I feel about Maxeen. It’s a great album, great songs, great band. But there’s nothing outstanding or special about it that makes it stand out above the rest. But through it all, it’s still a great album.

If I had to describe Maxeen with one word, I’d say attitude. Through the music they seem to have some sort of swagger and attitude about them that makes you want to listen to what they have to say. And it’s a good message too. There’s no anger, no prejudice, it’s positive energy and a positive message throughout. Of course we hear about relationships, but it’s not always about the girl that got away. We hear about family life, and friendships, as well as being part of a community. It’s refreshing to hear that it’s not always about hate, and a bad situation can sometimes lead to a realization that life’s not always going to go your way and you just have to deal with it.

This is rock music, and it does it’s job. It gets the feet tapping, gets the heads bobbing and gets the lips singing along. It’s good classic rock music and it is going places. These days people are looking for music resembling the old days just as much as they’re looking for something revolutionary and new. Maxeen is a new twist on an old recipe and they do it well.

Check out the album, if you have the chance go see them live. If you don’t hear them now, just wait a while. Then all you’ll be hearing from your friends will be “hey, have you heard this awesome band Maxeen yet?”
