Going Nowhere (Lockdown Sessions) - Self Released

Aliens in our midst or a group of eclectic artists making music that rocks the foundations of your life, you choose.

But for myself, this acoustic insight into their songs, is a moment to savour.  Going Nowhere wears its heart on its sleeve, songs that are given life by Tanzy Velayne’s vocal wonder, a powerhouse of emotion that has every right to be listened to with no distractions, so headphones on and volume up is my advice.

Midwich Cuckoos originally kicked off as a collective of enthusiastic like minded musician wanting to simply make song that they loved, I’m not sure if this is a line up that is set to be the solid foundations of a band or just the collective as it stands, but you have Tanzy Velayne – Vocals, Patch Barbet – Guitar, Rob Jones – Guitar, Lesley O’Brien – Guitar, Ben Wooster – Bass and Dan Rouse – Drums.

This EP is the answer to that pent up need to share beautiful music and express themselves in these difficult times that the scene is going through.

Five songs that although do flow, they also show how eclectic a band this is, ‘Russian Doll’ is first out of the abyss, it’s soft tones are cut through perfectly by Tanzy’s vocal, gentle yet edgy, which grabs a lyric with all its might and leads you into wonderfully, ‘Call The Nurse’ has a similar sound, but its darker lyric is reminiscent of one of Muse’s delights.  To lighten things up and show you how innovative their sound is, how it never gets held back back fences, ‘Dirty Love’ fills the air with a subtle Caribbean reggae beat and whilst we are globe trotting, ‘Diamonds’ with a sense of Spanish flamenco, grip you by the collar as the vocal stamps around your ear with wonderful rawness.  Then to end the ride, the mildly synth filled remix of ‘Blue Fingernails’ shows just how wide ranging this bands influence can take them, an upbeat yet understated mix, works perfectly to have you hitting replay a few times.

A band you need to get on you list of live acts to see!  If this EP doesn’t get your ears pricked up and scanning for more, then your’e probably not worth saving.  Punchy rock, stripped back to its bare bones, with vocals that can kill at 10 feet.

Available on all streaming platforms from 30th March 2021
