Much The Same

Quitters Never Win - A-F Records

Tumbling out of the growing punk rock scene of Chicago is Much The Same. The aggressive punk rock band plays a type of music somewhat similar to that of another local Chicago band, Allister. But faster, harder, more mature and less poppy. Their debut LP, Quitters Never Win, was released on A-F Recordsa while back and demonstrates just that.

Opening the album is the heavy hitting song, Wish. Starting with a great little guitar melody before the drums and vocals come busting in at you. Gunner and Franky’s vocals gets lodged in your brain, and you just can’t get them out no matter how much you try! Lyrics like “If all good things come to an end, then what about the bad? Am I cursed to never see the fruits of the life I wish I had?” grab your attention immediately and get you looking all around for the CD booklet. The lyrics are normally in first person, portraying stories and events which opens your mind and imagination.

Their aggressive melodies forces your blood to start boiling and gets your energy flowing. The two guitarists (Gunner and Dan O’G) work together to weave catchy musical pieces, all the while being threaded in place by bass riffs from Franky. Great drum rolls by Mook are always present but never overpowering, rounding off the sound perfectly. Putting a cherry on top of it all is Dan O’G with his powerful screams every once in a while.

Much The Same has places to go; and the means to get there. Their album will propel them to new heights as their loyal fan base waits anxiously for another release. They will continue playing their catchy punk-rock music until they can’t anymore. After all, Quitters Never Win.
