Peesh – Vicious Circle EP

Anyone heard of LoGOz?  Well if you have the this will be right up your street, if you haven’t then this new EP will hopefully be a door that opens for you to check out a musician who deserves every inch of our support.  Peesh is the lead singer and founder member of LoGOz, but it doesn’t stop there, he also has this solo career for which he gives up many hours to, then there is Junkster his original band for whom he still dips his toe in now and then, wait there’s even more, he also is one half of Cherry & Peesh the punk music and poetry duo.  Yes prolific is possibly selling this writer and performer short a little, hailing from North East England or to a little most specific Ashington, you will always find him on the love circuit doing one thing or another, very well I might add.

Vicious Circle is his latest solo release, out on Friday 19th November via himself (total DIY), this is a four track look into a side of Peesh that is let us say a little darker than his usual offerings, a lot more rockier even.  Track one being the title track Vicious Circle hits the head like a hammer, just like the political anti rhetoric this song offers up, an angry vocal that is thrown out over the top of an angst filled soundscape, an altogether much harder sound than we have heard from Peesh over the years.  

What strikes you when running through the whole EP, is the dark demons that need exorcising throughout the songs, it moves from style to style to, never staying on the same musical track, ‘Different Life’ drop the anger of the first track for a much more introspective lyric that’s dark yet also has a fight in it, this is helped along by a perfectly balanced musical backdrop, which shows a side to Peesh of vulnerability.

The last two tracks could also not be so different to each other, ‘Little Demons’ kicks of with a sound that strikes of something a little off kilter that we have not heard from him before, the whole song is filled with riffs and use of sound that bangs along like a juggernaut, then just as you feel like you might not be able to hold on for much longer, along comes ‘Damned’ a piece of wonderful music that although is hovering over a lyric that sings of death,  somehow is filled with life affirming moments, it speaks of the end and how to get off the roundabout, yet somehow the music lifts you to carry on!

Should you now go and discover Peesh or LoGOz, damn right you should!, and if this is going to be your first introduction to his music, then your in for a ride.  Powerful heart rendering stuff with plenty of political revolution, what more could you ask for? Oh yeah Rock n Roll too, its got the lot.
