From The Ashes - Epitaph Records
What to say about Pennywise? Four friends who have been making music for well over a decade (15 years now) in hopes of affecting people and changing the world; be it through a single person or a much larger scale. Their eighth studio album,From The Ashes, gives their fans exactly what they need.
After already being very politically charged, the events of 9/11 just heightened the fact. Pennywsise, like many other musical groups, drew ideas and emotions from that horrid day and the events which quickly followed. On songs like God Save The USA, This Is Only A Test and Judgment Day Jim Lindberg’s distinctive vocals and carefully thought out lyrics really get you thinking of the horrid state the world is in at the moment.
As for the rhythms and speed of it all, Pennywise are still the same group of people who threw up over a radio host back in ’95 when the station refused to play Pennywise songs on the air. They still know how to party and get your energized with mediocre to fast paced songs which just get you thinking of what it would be like to be in a pit moshing to the band playing your favorite songs.
As an added bonus, they even supply you with a small DVD for your viewing pleasure. Although, I personally believe that the DVD is somewhat boring and provides no real enterainment, there really was no need for it.
From The Ashes is a typical Pennywise album. If you liked them before, you will most likely still enjoy them today. They haven’t changed their style or progressive massively. They stayed the same. Although at times you yearn for that extra punch, there is still nothing to shake your head at.
