Things One Shouldn't Have To Say - Lockjaw Records/Double Helix Records
‘Things One Shouldn’t Have Say’ is Rebuke’s first album for a mind blowing 15 years, and this new concept album also took a mental 5 years to come to fruition. But was it worth it?
On initial listen you’re set upon by what feels like any other skate punk sound, rock guitar played at breakneck speed and vocals that narrate at said speed too. But drop in past all that and this is an album that splits into several layers, it looks at the world from an almost outside looking in perspective at times, it draws from the bands observations of a collapse in society in general and all the personal issues that come along with that.
This is the point in my normal reviews that I attempt to break down some of the songs and give the reader a sense of what to expect from the album musically and lyrically, but in this case I have decided to side step tradition. This is as I said earlier and album full of layers, the music has a life of its own and the lyrics simple fall into place when and where they can, it feels all about being the band they want to be technically and within this telling a story too.
18 songs that draw on all that this band are and want to be. So far my part, all I’ll say is, listen intently and be prepared to back and listen again many many times, there’s no piont in me waffling on, so this review is fittingly to the point too. Its like Bad Religion on acid at times, but well worth the trip.
Things One Shouldn’t Have To Say is out now via Lockjaw Records (UK & EU), Double Helix Records (US), Pee Records (AU) and Punk Rock Radar(US).
