On My Own - High End Denim Records

‘On My Own’ is the 7th solo release from this one time Mark & The Wolves member, and its kind of fitting that he finally realises that yep he is actually now out on his own, it may have taken so many releases to figure out that this is a venture he is now comfortable with and able to say I’ve arrived.

I personally was/is a fan of Mark & The Wolves, so to be given this album to listen to and through a few words around about, was kind of strange, especially when I had actually no idea Remmy was out on his own, let alone had already thrown out six other releases (just shows how mad this industry can be at times, you just miss stuff so often), so with fresh ears and no real background, here we go and hit play.

The first thing that hits you is the lyrical oddness, in the fact that its a story he’s telling, no cryptic poetic lines or complicated multiple meaning lines, just a straight forward GoGol Bordello style delivery of life moments, this is backed up by a rock style guitar sound.  Take track two ‘Musicholic’ which is as he states a made up term that covers exactly what he does and lives for, all with backdrop of a rock riff fest.

Throughout your given what feels like a biographical insight into the world of Remmy, title track ‘On my Own’ gives you an upfront “I’m on my own and if I fuck up it all my fault and no one else’s” moment, as sense of this is all on me and that’s how I like it.  ‘Since 89’ possibly the best track, and I say this, because its lyrically brilliant and musically much better than anything else on we hear up to this point, it just mixes things up so much more, a catchy hook filled banger.

The only negative I took away from this album, is it could get a little repetitive musically, but having said this, the story telling and down to earth lyrics did make up so much for this.

Don’t think this is just an album for Christmas, it’s for life, it’ll grow on you like a climbing plant, given enough time.

Remy although worryingly say in ‘Sow Good’ say he closed his FACEBOOK account, thankfully this was not for his music.

The album is out on February 24th and hopefully will be found via High End Denim Records SPOTIFY
