Roses Are Red are one of the many bands who have just missed the cut off for the emo wave a bands taking over, but are trying to cash in on it nonetheless.
They take every possible emo cliché and attempt to merge them all into one album, making for a mixed album. Even the band name, Roses Are Red, reeks uber-emoness, and the lyrics arne ‘t that innovative either. Every song is about relationships and the opposite sex. Lines such as “If I could, I’d draw a heart for you. Fix it in between the essence of my hands. Illuminate the arteries intil you understand” won’t leave you gasping for more. Which is a feel that most of the album gives off.
The music carries the ever present emo tone of music. Painstaking vocals that are just too painstaking to be sincere. An occasional scream here and there that always seems to sound out of place. Heavy guitars, that seem to be too polished at times. Various cymbal tapping here and there adding a little extra twang to some of the songs. For good measure, then even throw in the ever-present piano song 12:34. Overall, it’s just a sound that seems too polished and overworked to be really appreciated even though they are able to make a few good melodies here and there.
Conversations is an easy listen, but its also a boring listen. It flies through, always in the background, never making an impression on the listener and ends before you know it. The songs seem to mold together, and it’s almost impossible to tell when when begins and the other ends. Just an album that is too generic to be entertaining.
