Schedule 1 EP - Dirt Cult Records
Schedule 1 come onto the scene post covid, featuring members of Bishops Green, Dead Cells, Candy(BC) and Systematik. Having formed the basis of the band just as the pandemic hit, the timing may have been less as desired, yet within this time they have put together a self titled six track EP, that encompasses so many influences and traits that the members have utilised to create a sound that can only be found here, right now. Having so much depth of influence, its not long before you are surrounded by something familiar yet fresh, the single release ‘Show Your Children’ comes in with its infectious beats that leave a lingering smell of Joy Division in the air, have the melodic nuances of The Cure, but somehow never feels stale, in fact it’s life giving to those of us who enjoy the thrill of hearing future sounds.

The wide ranging appeal of this band is without doubt evident, bringing together all the cool elements of post-punk, with splashes of hardcore and Emo poking out of the edges every now and then. Back when all of these elements of music were born, who could have imagined a time when a band would take it all and reinvent/move the boundaries that held them in, ‘Another’ is a song that strafes every corner of punk, heavily on the what I would call modern street hardcore vocally, yet it throws in elements of musical history throughout, then the much darker ‘Five Hundred To One’ shows a passion that your discerning New Model Army fan would most certainly feel at home with.
The only let down to this EP from a personal point of view is its failure to capitalise on the first three songs, it does feel a little like a split EP in some respects, ‘Sacred Light’ and ‘Paint It Red’ struggle vocally to grab you by the throat as well as others on here, although musically the net has been thrown out just in time to break your fall, ‘Invaders’ ends the whole experience well though, a spicy kick up the ass blend of flavours, a melodic attack on the ears that still has enough angst to leave you glad you stayed the course.
A mix of old, middle aged and new punk/indie/emo/hardcore music that delivers.
Released as a 12″ on 28th January Via Dirt Cult Records
