Between The Lines

To The Wind - Self Released

UK Pop punk outfit Between The Lines were only formed last year and the youthful quintet have announced that they will be releasing their debut single, To The Wind, on Friday 6th July via all good digital platforms. Between The Lines pull their sound from across the pop punk genre and beyond, you can hear everyone from their contemporaries such as Neck Deep and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! through to Four Year Strong, with a hint of My Chemical Romance and Nim Vind thrown into the mix.

The title track is a refreshing take on pop punk, the feel is darker and the track has a touch, just a touch mind, of horror punk muscle about it, but it keeps hold of all the hooks and catchiness that is an essential element of any pop punk release. The b-side, Anywhere But Here, continues to ignore the pop punk cliches but keeps all the good stuff intact making this an impressive debut release from an outfit that has managed to avoid being just another pop punk band.

Whenever I hear the words new pop punk band I do have to stop myself from doing an involuntary eyeroll, not that I dislike pop punk, far from it providing the emphasis is on the punk side of things, but it’s just that it’s hard to find a new band on this scene that deviates from the well worn template. Thankfully Between The Lines have released a single that indicates that there is still life in the pop punk scene as they have released a refreshing and surprisingly original debut single that is well worth checking out.
