Dead By Monday

Almost Punk - Self Released

Glasgow’s Dead By Monday are set to self release their debut EP, Almost Punk, next Friday, the 27th July, the politically charged quartet have been embedding themselves in the Scottish punk scene since 2016 and have built a reputation as an incendiary and energetic live act. If you need evidence of this their frontman, Murray ‘Muzza’ Taylor, recently tore the ligaments in his knee at show with TRC at Glasgow’s garage, and in true punk rock fashion they will still be playing their scheduled release shows next month in Glasgow and Stockport.

Appropriately enough Dead By Monday’s debut EP kicks off with The First, a track that boasts a raw vocal that sits on top of a punk rock blast, this is followed by Dead Souls that veers into hardcore territory with unexpected breakdowns that recall Rage Against The Machine. Our Doomsday resembles a furious and less drunk version of NOFX‘s early recordings before you hit the EP’s final track, Choke, that starts off in an unexpectedly tender, at least in comparison to the tracks that preceded it, manner before it builds to a raging climax that brings the Almost Punk EP to a close.

Almost Punk is a raw self released debut that takes in influences from across the board, the Almost Punk EP contains the intensity of Gallows, the DIY approach of early NOFX, the unpredictability of The Dillinger Escape Plan and the fury of Rage Against The Machine that are blended together to create a impressive debut four track package of DIY punk rock. Almost Punk is a misleading title for the debut EP by Dead By Monday as there is so much more to this Glaswegian quartet.
