Welcome To The Dead Club - SaySomething Records
It seems that the London punk scene has a new voice in the form of the fierce, no nonsense barrage that is delivered by Pretty Pistol, the band are set to release their debut EP, Welcome to the Dead Club, on Friday 13th April via SaySomething Records. Pretty Pistol‘s vocalist, Laura Le Rox, leads the assault with a vicious vocal attack, this is backed up by a trio who also take no prisoners with a brutal soundtrack that embraces the raucous side of the punk scene, together the quartet make Pretty Pistol a more than formidable addition to the UK’s punk scene.
The first cut from the Welcome To The Dead Club EP is the impressive Cry Wolf, a thrashy trashy slab of hardcore punk that makes for an impressive statement of intent, in comparison Drive Me To The Dogs is a slow burning and stripped down anguished post punk anthem. Hurricane returns to the high octane punk, but with more an influence from the first wave of punk, and finally Welcome To The Dead Club is wrapped up with No Guts (This Is Glory), a track that brings the riot grrrl rage to the fore for a frenzied finale to what has been an all too short introduction to Pretty Pistol.
Pretty Pistol‘s sound sits somewhere between Be Your Own Pet, Milk Teeth, Svetlanas, Kamikaze Girls and Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, but what is clear is that they are part of a new wave of young punk bands in the UK, including Manchester’s Proletariat and Liverpool’s Last Reserves, that are bringing something fresh to the punk scene by combining the energy and rage of the punk and hardcore movements of the past to create their own sounds for the burgeoning UK punk scene, and this news, along with the Welcome To The Dead Club EP, really is something that should put a smile on your face.
