He's A Jerk / Because I Love You - Hidden Volume Records

Philadelphia based garage punks RunHideFight have released their debut single via Baltimore’s garage label Hidden Volume Records. Geeta Dalal Simons recorded the original demo’s for the single in her kid’s playroom before committing the tracks to vinyl along with former members of Hot Snakes, Creatures Of The Golden Dawn, Original Sins, Mae Pang, Three 4 Tens and Marah. The quartet have released a single that is a primitive shot across the bows that captures the essence of everything that drew me into garage punk when I first picked up copies of Lysergic Emanations, Get Primitive! and Boom!

The a-side of RunHideFight‘s debut single, He’s A Jerk, kicks in with a riff that’s straight outta the garage, it carries all the snotty attitude you could wish for, along with Geeta Dalal Simons primal garage scream. He’s A Jerk channels the raw roots of punk rock and delivers the finest two minutes of garage punk I’ve heard this year. The flip side, Because I Love You, brings the pace down with a track that brings psyche influences to bear whilst maintaining the attitude and menace of the a-side to create a near perfect pairing.

RunHideFight are a welcome addition to the long overdue garage punk renaissance that has been building for the past few years, RunHideFight will have an obvious appeal to fans of the established garage and garage revival bands such as The Sonics, The Fuzztones, The Nomads and WitchDoktors, but they will also fit in amongst the new wave of bands that are mining the primitive origins of punk such as The Blue Carpet Band, Nosebleed and Fuzzy Vox. RunHideFight have released a debut statement of intent that delivers two tracks in four and half minutes that border on perfection, and it’s a release that makes me want to hear a lot more from them in 2019.
