The New Catastrophes “Weather The Storm” On New Album
San Jose, CA's The New Catastrophes have released their new album, Weather The Storm, via streaming platforms, as a free…
Just The Tip - Self Released
The Papashangos have recently released their debut EP, Just The Tip, a release that captures the punk rock mayhem of their live shows with an EP of dirty rock ‘n roll that is straight from the garage, with the added twist of a delicious tinge of seedy horror. The Papashangos have developed a reputation for chaotic live shows that has seen them fall foul of promoters, but with the debut EP you can now enjoy the chaos from the relative safety of a download or CD.
Just The Tip is punctuated by brief interstitial samples that lead you into the following track, and from the sinister whisper of “it’s just the tip” The Papashangos launch into their debut release with the brief introduction of We Are… Each song on the band’s debut EP is untamed and unsophisticated garage punk, Eating People Is Wrong and the wonderful I Wanna Get Fucked Up are perfect examples of their disreputable punk rock. At this point the Just The Tip EP goes off at a tangent, with possibly the only song ever written about the joy of wearing a poncho, before returning to snotty garage punk to bring things to a close with Wasting My Life Away.
The Papashangos go to great lengths to encourage you not to go and see them and gleefully quote their worst reviews, my advice would be to not to listen to their own hype as Just The Tip is dirty, distasteful punk ‘n roll that straddles the line between the attitude of the original garage punks and the chaos and energy of early punk rock perfectly. The Papashangos will be spreading mayhem across the spring and summer months with live shows, including appearances at Strummercamp and The Unholy Messtival, and I’m going to make damn sure I witness them first hand, because sometimes Just The Tip isn’t enough.
