Watashi Wa Dance Party

Skate Pop Suicide - Hidden Home Records

San Diego’s Watashi Wa Dance Party formed in 2015 and they have been pushing the limits of American suburban punk music ever since, they have now released their latest EP, Skate Pop Suicide, that offers an eclectic mix of different sounds taken from all around the punk rock world, with a particular influence from J Punk. The EP, that compiles tracks that appeared on band’s three Character singles into one handy package, is now available via Hidden Home Records.

Daylight is the first glimpse of what’s to come on the EP, a short feel good blast geek punk that is accompanied by swirling retro keyboards, Skate Pop Suicide gets into gear on Mio that has a more frantic approach but does this whilst retaining all the goofy elements that made the opening track such a promising introduction. The Skate Pop Suicide EP continues to mine a rich vein of J Punk and ska core influenced nerd punk, Really Over, Halle and Ruminating all keep Skate Pop Suicide rolling along until finally My Lava Lamp brings a heavier, yet immediately recognisable, element to bring the EP to a close.

Watashi Wa Dance Party have released an EP that fans of Nerf Herder, The Aquabats and Dead Milkmen will adore, Skate Pop Suicide is a quirky sextet of punk rock tracks that embraces J Punk and melds it with the more unpredictable and geekier side of the US punk scene. Whilst this is essentially a singles compilation that collects the core tracks from their Character EPs, Skate Pop Suicide serves as a fine introduction for the uninitiated as this is a six track EP that will put a smile on your face.
