Cheap & Nasty - Vinyl Eddie Records

Snapblades are the duo of Matt “Smell” Keely & Dan “Gottie” Gott (Snakerattlers / The Franceens), together they have decided to turn their backs on the modern world as much as they can and are releasing their debut EP, Cheap And Nasty, on vinyl, this is important to Snapblades. There will be no digital issue, they won’t have an online presence of any description, they do make a concession by letting us have advance physical copies, a rare thing in it’s own right, which means they won’t even upload their own EP! Even the pictures in this review are ones I had to take myself of the EP’s artwork.

The packaging for this review CD of the Cheap & Nasty EP contains the legend “IN CASE OF TIKTOK ’N’ ROLL BREAK GLASS”, I have no idea what TikTok ’n’ roll is but it sounds like a terrible idea, maybe I’m getting old, maybe It is a terrible idea. It’s safe to say that this EP is borne of an old school attitude, and as half of Snakerattlers are involved in this project then this shouldn’t come as a surprise. But the time warp doesn’t go back quite as far this time, this is five tracks of raw driven DIY punk that harks back to tail end of the 70’s. There is a bonus track on Cheap And Nasty, but if you want to know about it or hear it you’ll have to buy it, as we’ve been asked not to talk about it.

There is no digital element of the Cheap And Nasty EP, everything is old school, no social media, no videos, no streams, just making a record, telling people about it and then getting it out there on vinyl to be sold to those who still cling to the old ways. So if you want to get yourself a copy of this time warping EP then you’ll just have to go out there and get it from a record shop, or you could sit on your couch and order it via Vinyl Eddie Records.
