SR-71

Tomorrow - RCA Records

After being quiet for a couple years, this band out of Baltimore/Washington has come bursting back into the scene with an incredible album: Tomorrow.  Mitch Allan (vocals, guitar), Mark Beachemin (guitar), Jeff Reid (bass) and John Allen (drums) is the quartet that makes up SR-71.  The album is heavy, while being melodic at the same time, all in all it creates an amazing sound that picks up from their last release,Now You See Inside.

First, lets talk about my two favorite songs on the album, She Was Dead and LuckyShe Was Dead, the 7th song, is the fastest song and the shortest song on the album. It starts off with a siren sound and then the drum beat comes in, and you enter the song. I love the lyrics at the beginning of the song: “From the minute that I saw her, She was different from the rest. I Didn’t hear her talking, I was looking at her chest”.  After another verse, it goes into the chorus, a bit slower, then it picks right back up and goes back into a new chorus. The song goes onto to saying that he wished he had listen, cause then he would’ve seen the signs, its been a couple months and she irritating the hell out of him. So he decides to make her live a living hell in till its over. It has an incredible beat and catchy lyrics, definitely my favorite song on the album.

Now, Lucky, is the tenth song on Tomorrow. This one is another fast paced song. Its about a guy who runs around committing havoc and its not considered right, but he considers himself lucky. Around 1:35 in, then go into a great guitar solo. This song is just a great song, and one of the better ones of the album. Back to the beginning of the album now, with They All Fall Down. It starts off with a guitar solo and then Mitch opens the song and album with: “I can be as humble as the next guy, or I can make you blink and crumble from the inside”. It gets louder for the chorus and then softer for the verses. This quick changing in beats makes the song really fun to listen to.

The second song is the album titled song, Tomorrow. It is the first single of the album as well.  It starts off with a little space tune and then some guitar riffs join in. Its a slower song about someone not being afraid of the future, just afraid of himself.  Its a pretty cool song, it will definitely get some notice on the radio. The third song, My World is kinda slow, with really great lyrics and beats. Its soft for most on the song, but the chorus is a lot harder. The sound is very powerful indeed. Hello Hello is the next song, and another slower song. It has catchy lyrics and good tunes. Well worth a listen, but there’s nothing extra-ordinary about it.

Truth is an amazing song. The first 10 seconds is just a simple guitar riff repeated then vocals and drum beats are added in. This song is another powerful one just about everything you see around the world everyday, but not the good stuff. It starts off slow but then gets harder and it  gets you pumped up and it is just overall exhilarating.

Next we come upon Goodbye. It is a fast paced song with great lyrics and beats which makes you play air guitar. It starts off with a soft sound and Mitch just sounds really cool, then 44 seconds in, it gets harder as it goes into the chorus for the first time. The lyrics are so catchy, you get them the first time you hear them! Now skipping She Was Dead (look above), we come upon The Best Is Yet To Come. It is a slow song, and one of my favorite songs. Its about putting the past away, and that the bets stuff is yet to come (hence the title). The Best Is yet To Come is a powerful song that will most likely help a lot of people get through hard times.

Broken Handed is the following song, pretty catchy. Good beats and riffs throughout. I like it, you might too. Lucky we will skip (look above) and go straight to In My Mind. This song by far is my least favorite on the album. It is the longest song, at 5:24, and the first 50 seconds is really soft and in my point of view, useless. Its slow and soft the entire way, and I just do not like it at all! They could’ve done better, as they have shown in the rest of the CD. Non-Toxic is the last song on Tomorrow. It starts off with a loud riff, which is quite refreshing after In My Mind.  It is a harder song, with cool vocals.  I think it rounds off the album in an excellent fashion.
