Under The Rug - Self Released

Steel Bridges is Phillipe Routhier, a one man band with the power of a five piece.  The release of Under The Rug comes after a few years of finding his way in the musical world by the sounds of it.  An Instrumental album Flames and an EP Flames Revisited based on that album was the learning curve that lead to this now released album.

Do you remember Sum 41’s ‘Fat Lip’ and the alter ego that they played out at the end of this pop punk slammer, for some reason very early on into hitting play, this is what was going on in my head, for it only to be smashed away with like a sledgehammer with bigger rock riffs, 100 mile on hour drums, shredding that befits any melodic hardcore punk album, and huge slice of skate punk splattered all over it.

‘Left Behind’ is first out of the trap, an energetic 90’s flow of riffs and rhythms cover a lyric that gives off a vibe of moving forward after a time of sitting around gathering dust. What stands out throughout the album, is the authors love for the guitar, the foundation of the every second of the album has to be the melding together of all the influences like Millencolin in ‘I Remember My Beating Heart’, Good Riddance flowing through ‘Near The Light’ and my personal favourite ‘Goodbye Ghost’ which brings in all the skate punk simplicity and smashes it up at electrifying speed.

Being only eight songs longs and chugging along at the speed of a bullet train, your’e left breathless and alone at the end of the ride.  Is this going to create tsunami’s in the world of music, possibly not, but for some it will be in their top twenty of the year I’d say.
