Beauty In Destruction - Immortal Records
The moment I saw the cover of this cd, all my hopes for listening to something decent were dashed by a sticker that read,”For fans of My Chemical Romance, Story of the Year, and Silverstein.” They should have mentioned that it could be for fans of Saosin as well, because that’s what it sounds like. I cannot stress how bad this band is, never mind this album. Listening to it was simply agonizing, the singer has a very abnoxious voice. He stresses some words, and it just hurts my ears. It’s really that simple, this band is not going to help me regain hope in the music scene. The Bleeding Alarm seems to be one more band hell bent on cashing in on this trend that’s taking little girls and AP magazine by storm. I know I’ve bitched about AP magazine before, but it simply does not deserve to be read, it’s 90% ads, 10% plugs for bands like this. The guitarists make annoying noises with their guitars as well, so my irritation doesn’t just rest with the singer. Not to mention they stick to palm muting and basic riffs to keep their music from getting complex. I realized very quickly that the drumming isn’t that great either, they just really tightened up the skin on their bass drum to give it a sharper sound and they use their snare a lot. Then there’s the lyrics, which I will leave to your imagination after I list a few song names here; The Girl Has A Gun, Remembering My Romance, and The Sweethearts Vow. So, as I sit here listening to Blacklisted, being grateful that I finally changed the music because I had heard enough, I’d just like to reflect on this cd insert that I’ve got in front of me right now. The cover is a girl being restrained by ribbons, one of which has the band name on it, then the rest of the album art is fancy designs and another picture of that girl, except she’s wearing less than on the cover, still restrained by ribbons I might add. The cover of this cd has taught me to judge more albums by their covers, because not having a preconcieved notion is for chumps. This way I can get a bias going before I even begin writing about the album, and then feel good about myself when the cd turns out as shitty as I predicted. After all, most often, no band that plays decent music just writes songs about heartbreak and women, since that has been overused.
If you have a shred of common sense, you won’t buy into this or anything related to this genre of music. Please! stay away from this, if you have twenty dollars that needs spending, why not try drugs? At least if you’re doing drugs you won’t realize that other people think you’re stupid for listening to shitty music. But seriously, my favorite song on this cd was the introduction, simply because its the shortest song and I don’t have to hear any vocals in it, just some kind of random noise that sounds a lot like guitar feedback. Listening to this cd was not fun, save yourself some time and money and buy something better. By better I don’t mean something else off Immortal records, since they seem to be trying to cash in on those bitchy poppy bands. Now all I have to do is get this cd, along with Crash Romeo as far away from me as possible.
