The Dead Republic

Self Titled - Sidekick Music

So this red, black and white CD showed up in my mailbox last week. After further inspection I realized it was a band by the name of Dead Republic and this was their self-titled five song EP on Sidekick Music. I had never heard of these guys, and couldn’t remember why I had a copy of it in my hand. But I decided to give it a spin and I liked it. It wasn’t exactly good enough to stay in my CD player constantly, but it found its way in there between The Used, Green Day and Planet Smashers. Each time I liked it, their mix of emo and punk rock made for a nice listen. Today I decided to give the EP a real, solid listen to; and I’ve probably been listening to this EP for the past 3 hours straight. In all this time, I still have no idea what to say about the EP, but I’ll give it a shot.

These Australian natives have crafted a good five song EP of punk/rock songs with a slight tinge of emo. The vocals remind me of Adam from Taking Back Sunday at times; they sound completely different, but the way they are delivered are quite similar. Musically, they are no way similar to Taking Back Sunday. They have a type of rock-oriented sound. Heavy guitars and bass lines driven together backed up my solid drums. The chorus are catchy and grab you; and quite often refuse to leave your memory.

Leaning more on the rock side, The Dead Republic has a nice self-titled EP here. Like I said, I’ve listened to this for over 3 hours straight now and still can listen to it some more. The only downside is that some of their songs seem to sound similar to one another; but I’d still be interested to see what they can come up with on their full length.
