The Descendents – Cool To Be You

The Descendents are back with their seventh studio album, Cool To Be You. Anyone who listened to their ‘Merican EP last month has been dying to hear what this band came up with in their seven year break. Cool To Be You shows us that and doesn’t disappoint in anyway whatsoever.

Of course, its nothing new, nothing that you haven’t heard before. But is that a bad thing? In this case: no. After inventing the pop-punk genre back in 1981, they have played it nonstop for almost a quarter of a century, constantly working and improving their skills. So here, with Cool To Be You; they have finally perfected the sound. They are fast, catchy, short, fun songs to listen to. They never get repetitive or monotonous, each song is different. Whether its about failing dreams, the state of America, falling in love at the anchor grill, being lazy or letting one rip; each song gets implanted in your brain and you can never release it.

I think Alternative Press said it best when they said “First they invented pop-punk, now they’ve perfected it. What’s left for them to do?“
