Getting Dumber Present “Dried Flowers” From Upcoming “Just A Second” EP
Perth trio, Getting Dumber struck the local scene in late 2022 putting their own spin on melody and power-chord driven punk…
Eat My Heart Out - Lookout! Records
Female vocalists are starting to garner more and more respect in the scene. Leaving behind Britney and X-tina, new bands like The Distillers, Damone, Slunt, Tsunami Bomb, and The Fight are all slowly starting to make their ways onto the airwaves. Panic Button Records (a sub label for LookOut! Records) have found another female fronted band that will soon enough be the talk of the scene, and that band is The Dollyrots.
Originally from Florida, Kelly Ogden (vocals/bass) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) dropped out of New College and moved to Los Angeles to form a band. There they met Josh Valenti (drums), and The Dollyrotslineup was complete. After self-releasing a EP, they have now teamed up with Panic Button to release Eat My Heart Out to the world.
From the bouncy opener of Kick Me To The Curb, to the kick ass Jackie Chan, to the Goodnight Tonight ballard, to the infectious New College, and everything in between, The Dollyrots now how to bring the rock. Gutsy vocals from leading woman Odgen jump at the listener through the speaker, giving a powerful kick to their sound; all of which is very reminiscent of Abby Gennet from Slunt. Sweet, yet angry, the vocals are strong and angst-filled, blowing all the major pop-punk vocalists out of the water.
Power-pop-punk has never as good as it sounds on here, it’s impossible not to fall in love with their bubblegum punk. Catchy, melodic, straight forward punk that Lookout! Records is known for. It will bring up memories of The Ramones and early Green Day. The psychotic bunny on the cover (think of Happy Tree Friends) is a perfect persona for the band. Sweet and innocent on the outside, but harsh and intense deeper in.
Imagine Slunt and The Ramones getting together and making a baby, that baby would be The Dollyrots.
