Scandinavian Thunder - The Sign Records
Boom! And in come Scandanavian band The Drippers with this their second album Scandinavian Thunder, the follow up to their 2019 album Action Rock, which brings us neatly to what this band are known for, yep action rock would be a reasonable description of the sound that rumbles out of the speakers like an avalanche at you, thundering along without any sign of stopping.
With a regional history of bands like Hellacopters, Turbonegro and Back Yard Babies to add to their influences, The Drippers have also taken from bands around the world such as MC5, The Stooges to infuse into a powerful sound, with this album you also get a big sense of Motörhead.

Falling off a cliff into and into a raging sea is the only way to explain how 5 Day Blues (2 Day Boogie) hits you, a wall of guitars, a rip tide of drums and a vocal that slams into you like a tsunami. With a motorbike being throttled up and setting off into the sunset Overload roars in next, this is the first of what could easily pass for Motörhead tracks, with its punk angst smashing headlong into a brick wall of metal sound, you can add Shine No Light to this list too, then there is possibly the best track on this album Rollin’ Aces which hangs bass line right out there with the best of the best Lemmy could smash out.
Among all the carnage and roadkill that is strewn in its wake, this album does also have its moments of nailing your feet to the ground, No Stars throws out some riffage and licks that combine to create some semblance of melodic normality, Racing Down A Dead End has a sense of Rock n Roll that punches with the best of them, then Deadbeat Groove does some definite grooving as is suggested in the title.
Before you even know what’s hit you, the last track is crashing its high gain right into your chest like the buffer at the end of the train line, except this buffer gets smashed out of the way and the runaway train keeps on powering along.
Pure growling angst ridden Rock n Roll, filled with metal grunge guitars and garage rock vocals that take it to the street perfectly.
