The God Awfuls

Next Stop Armageddon - Kung Fu Records

The God Awfuls seemed to have jumped out of nowhere and landed right onto Kung Fu Records‘ radar. They quickly signed them and the world started hearing the name everywhere. Their single, Watch It Fall, of their debut album, Next Stop Armageddon., was an instant classic in my book. It was one of my favorite videos on Kung Fu‘s Secret Weapons Of Kung Fu 2 DVD, and one of the best songs onPunk Rock Is Your Friend Vol. 5. But that was the only song I had ever heard by the band, so I decided to check out Next Stop Armageddon., but when I did, I was a little disappointed.

The best song on the album is still Watch It Fall. The sing along chorus is very similar to that of Anti-Flag, and you can’t help but sing along with them as they yell “We are the ones with the power to devour one and all! Tear down the old foundation brick by brick and watch it fall!“. And even when they aren’t at the chorus, you still sing along, although you need some help by the booklet. But the rest of the album misses that punch. There are a few songs which has you singing along with them, but none are ever as catchy. Sure, there are a few songs, like Tonight and N.R.A. which are able to stay in par withWatch It Fall; but other then that, a lot of the songs tend to blur together. Nothing really makes them standout or really make you want to sing along like the single did.

The songs are all very political and fast paced, which are reminds me of Anti-Flag. I can listen to this CD quite a lot, but nothing really grabs you other then a few odd tracks here and there. Which does make for a somewhat forgettable album.
