The Inklings

Bring Out Your Dead - Self Released

Bring Out Your Dead is the 4th album from the Teesside trio that is The Inklings, if you’re not familiar with the band, then be prepared to be stretched, they have always pushed the envelope of what you might consider punk, this album does not shy away from doing exactly the same.  This 10 track offering has all the twists and turns of a mad mouse ride where it comes to musical influence and lyrical content, with all the guile of a hyena when it comes to tracking down its prey, the songs feel like they have been purposed for the album to confuse and stretch your mind a little, no time to relax and think its gonna be an easy ride.

‘Under The Stairs’ kicks us off, a musical fest of eclectic wonderment, filled with a somewhat sinister lyric, which as throughout the album is delivered understatedly but clearly.  What The Inklings always do well is to keep the interest going through their sheer diversity of sound, take ‘Taxi For Swales’ this is a tongue in cheek pop tune that shows the fun side to a band that can also be so very politically sharp, ‘The Real Price Of Oil’ for example takes the subject of war and paints a reality check picture of the cost in lives and how profit and greed can be so damaging to the men and women who are sent to war under false pretences.

When your faced with an album of this complexity in style and vision, it can be off putting to some of the more traditional music listeners, but personally I’d say The Inklings have been able to deliver songs that are so multi layered in such a way that if you simply want to sing a long, or delve deeper, its all in here.  Let’s just say that if you’re a fan of possibly Nick Cave, The Stranglers, The Pixies or even a bit of The Cure, you’re gonna love this album.

Out on Digital release July 19th and on Limited CD release 26th July.
