Hot Fuss - Island Records
The Killers is the band that is running away from what they really are. They take the time to take care of their image by carefully cutting their hair so that is portrays that messy rock star hairstyle everyone wears. They sound British despite the fact that they are from Vegas thanks to a well-planned and practiced English accent. But despite their overly image conscious ways, The Killers still know how to make one hell of a CD.
The truth is that Hot Fuss is full of highly catchy and energetic songs. With the use of a synthesizer, their songs are unlike most bands you see today. Combining melodic rock, with some techno-like sounds, the fake British accent, and high energy riffs, the songs are very enjoyable. It takes a few listens before the album starts to sink in, but once it does, you are set. Songs like Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Meflow through the speakers so flawlessly, you can’t help but sing along and press repeat. There are a few songs, like Everything Will Be Alright or All These Things That I’ve Done, which loses the album down a point or two simply because they are too slow and monotone, pretty boring.
The Killers‘ Hot Fuss is a CD unlike any in my collection. Even though the fake accent and the obnoxious hair styles make you think that they are being prepared for mass-production, you can’t help but be pulled into the album. A great blend of infectious vocals, melodic hooks, rock and roll, and just a breath from the normal sound we hear makes for Hot Fuss to be an enjoyable album; although, its definitely not for everyone.
