The Lost Patrol Band

Self Titled - Epitaph Records / Burning Heart Records

It’s funny thinking that the same person whose yelps have became famous on some of the best screamo records of all time, including Refused‘s The Shape of Punk To Come with it’s classic song, New Noise,is now crooning his listeners with mellowed out acoustic songs. It’s also funny thinking that the same person who spits out harsh political anthems with The (International) Noise Conspiracy is now singing about heartaches and love. But the fact is he is, Dennis Lyxzén is back with his third album for The Lost Patrol, which has now evolved from just him and friends to an actual band: The Lost Patrol Band.

What used to be little acoustic ditties on his last album, Songs About Running Away, have now become power pop melodies on their Self-Titled release. The songs are still full of heart break and love but don’t go to the point of being sappy and annoying. It clearly shows that while Lyxzén knows how to scream ferociously and sporadically, he is also able to sing calmly and smoothly without missing a harmony.

The ten track album is full of up tempo, bouncy, power pop songs that have a sense of familiarity to them. It’s nothing serious or ground breaking, just a pleasant, easy-listening, fun album from Lyxzén and his band. With sing along chorus and carefree harmonies, The Lost Patrol Band have given us a laid back album that remind you of the simplest form of music and the simplest joy of life.

It is by no means for everyone, and takes a few listens before you get used to it; but no matter how many times you listen to it, it never gets boring or repetitive. So give it a chance, you may enjoy it.
