MDNA Pay Homage To The Queen Of Pop On “Poppers Don’t Preach” EP
Manchester, UK's MDNA have released the three track Poppers Don't Preach EP that features punked up versions of Madonna hits,…
Paranoid And Sweaty - Hype Music
The Meat Sweaters, not a band name you can forget easily, and just wait until you hear them, defiantly different yet comfortingly familiar too, a punk\synth mix of Devo esque quirkiness, Screamers unpredictability and just enough of a hint of Talking Heads to ground it a little (but not too much).
Hailing from Brighton & London via Sweden, this band by way of this EP should be set take the country by the balls and show just what punk should be “different & individual”.
Having released a few singles up to date of which the first track on this EP ‘Body Yoghurt’ was on of, this their debut 4 track should lend a hand to those of us who want to hear more of them, and probably leave you just wishing it was so much longer. So ‘Body Yoghurt’ interesting idea this, maybe an Olympic sport contender here is it?, guess the flavour and choose your body part wisely, but what this sing does do, is instantly make you check that its actually not Devo under a pseudonym, amazingly fast and catchy as this is, it never quite lives up to the rest of the EP for me (although this is on no way saying its not great, coz it is), ‘Got Me Into It’ is so right up the cool and interesting street, a rollercoaster of what, when, how, who, can our reactions with others determine their existence or not (yes confusing and brilliant) all wrapped up in music that can never be conforming or boring.
This is all followed by what is undeniably the best track on the EP and sticking my neck out here, I’d say a 100% classic in the making. ‘I Got The Shakes’ kicks off with a ridiculously catchy guitar riff that heads you off into the realms of “holy shit, this song already fucking rocks” territory, a more guitar lead song than most on here, yet never falls down the trap of being boring at any single point, a lyric that describes and purvey’s nervous energy perfectly.
And finally (yes finally shit really!) ‘I’m A Success’ is a song for those who believe in positivity and the power of using you to be the confident and successful you.
What matters with this very short four track EP is that it snaps your neck back and makes you want so much more, drives your need to see these live and inevitably gives the band what they deserve, fame fortune and a pot of what ever flavour yoghurt they require.
