I think I’ll just start by saying that I wasn’t meant to review this cd at first, it was meant for my friend James. It also seemed that he had given this a listen and didn’t really seem to like it. So when he passed this onto me because he had no time to actually write about it, I feared the worst. It’s hard to really describe the feeling listening to this cd gave me . I know for one that I don’t really dislike it, but I know that I probably won’t listen to it much in the future, although I guess I’m going to end up seeing them at a show in August. my strange feeling about this band probably probably came out of the strange mix of screaming vocals and what sounds like indie-rock guitar riffs. It’s just a very strange mix. The vocals sound like they’re straight out of some generic screamo band, except without the “singing like a little girl” once the scream is over. Once you hear even several seconds from one of their songs, it sums up what the vocals in every song sound like. The guitar seemed the most out of place though, it just seemed kind of boring and very predictable. I really can’t think of any band to compare them too, this isn’t the kind of music I usually listen to. The bass lines aren’t really anything special, not that this surprises me, but they really don’t do anything fancy with that instrment. It seems to just plays along, playing similar notes to enhance the other instruments(if you think that’s what the bass is for, I strongly recommend listening to a 88 Fingers Louie song). Contrary to my usual obsession, listening for a really fast drum beat wasn’t the first thing I did, then it struck me that they just don’t feel important in these songs. It’s very strange, usually the drums are very dominant. But with this band, the vocals are very dominant along with the guitar, which is probably one of the contributing factors to the mediocrity I felt while listening to this. Honestly, the lyrics didn’t really make any impact on me, the way the vocalist sings made them impossible for me to decipher. The album art was kind of cliche as well, it was just random “artsy” pictures of run down things you’d find in a home. Just the kind of pictures an amateur photographer would take so that they could throw them into their next album insert.
I don’t think I’d recommend this album, it aroused no negative or positive emotions in me. Well it may have aroused one negative emotion, boredom. I’m sure some people might love this, so I’d recommend finding a song off this album on the internet, if you like that, you should know what the rest of the cd is going to sound like. I really did not even notice songs were changing, probably because I was more busy writing this than paying attention, but that is simply not the point. When the cd ended I turned the Nerve Agents on and I find myself singing along, even though this review is still holding my full attention. Basically what I’m trying to say is save your money and wait for this band to release something better because they definitely have the potential to.
Just a little side note, apparently this cd was put on while I was very inebriated and a bunch of my friends and I made fun of it relentlessly. I don’t remember that happening, but I’m sure I felt just as unfulfilled by it then as I do now.
