My Transgender Dysphoria Waltz is the self explanatory lead single from Alldeepends that is now available via streaming platforms, the track is taken from their upcoming new album, No Shallow Ends. On their new single Alldeepends have given a clear context to the layered references and illusions used to make up the lyrical content of the song, it is based on the conflicting feelings of publicly transitioning, both the freedom of expression and harsh responses are given attention. From the opening line of “An albatross around my neck to accessorize…” My Transgender Dysphoria Waltz plays with the joy that comes from making your own authentic presentation of self, and the fact that by presenting yourself outside of an expected binary you make yourself visible to both those that support or oppose your actions. The choice to make it a waltz, played in 3/4 emulates the emotional swings that come with thinking about this subject and your place in the world.

“I have had many public bouts of direct hate and aggression towards me due to my transition, on busses and in bars. And while that is hurtful and dangerous, changing for their sake feels so much worse. Ultimately now knowing this about myself, I can’t go back. I feel happy despite the negativity.” (vocalist & banjo player Fawn Ilic)
