The SoDa Poppers Drop New Single “Not Even In Your Wildest (Fuckin’) Dreams”

Forming during lockdown, Covøids are simultaneously a product of our time and a throwback to the ’80s golden age of hardcore punk. Falling somewhere between the adrenalised melodic hardcore of Circle Jerks, and the frenetic skate rock of McRad, Covøids deploy the uncomplicated, time-honoured formula of ‘short, fast, loud’ to great effect.
Gaining traction from the get-go, Covøids have played sold-out shows since their debut in 2020, proving themselves to be an incendiary live band in the 15-or-so minutes their blistering sets last. With songs that clock in around the one-minute mark, Covøids‘ live shows are a relentless blitz, which is also a pretty good description of their debut album, We Need A Plan B.
Fitting eight songs on a 7”, We Need A Plan B is classic hardcore at its most ferocious and abrupt – blending basic, catchy riffs with a vocal assault that is part social commentary, part nihilistic realism. From mid-tempo anthems to blink-and-you-miss-it assaults; We Need A Plan B is hardcore 101.
Based on the sunny west coast of Australia, Covøids are made up of veterans from the WA punk scene including members of Leeches!, Screwtop Detonators, Love Camp 7, Order Of The Black Werewolf, The Critics, Change Of Face, Chainsaw Hookers, Ratking.
